Teacher Representatives of the PTA
Jane Foxcroft
Principal
I was born in England and graduated from Sheffield University after reading EnglishLiterature. Coming from a family of teachers (my father was Head of Science at RugbySchool and received an OBE for his service to Education) my ambition was from an early age to contribute personally to education.
My first teaching role was in a large grammar school in Hertfordshire. After several years of teaching English and Drama I took a sabbatical year to engage in some professional acting before returning to education. In 1984 I was appointed as i/c keystage 4 in English at Island School and later become Head of Rutherford; a pastoral post. I was promoted to Head of English when WestIslandSchool opened in 1991. During 1998 I had a year in England completing a Masters Degree in Education at OxfordUniversity before returning to WestIslandSchool to be promoted to Deputy Principal in 2000 to lead “Guidance and Achievement” and spearhead the move to IB. I am married to the Head of Mathematics at IslandSchool. In my spare time I continue to enjoy the theatre, as well as adventure holidays and take a keen interest in wildlife.
Ian Clayton
Vice Principal
My name is Ian Clayton and I am a vice principal at the school, teaching mainly history and some French. Before coming to WIS I was the principal of the senior school section of the British School Manila for 8 years. During my time there I helped establish the senior school, putting in place the GCSE programme and latterly the IB programme. I helped guide the school through OfSTED inspection and IB and CIS accreditation. With me here in Hong Kong are my wife, Joana, and our two sons, Ben aged 5 and Matthew who is just 16 months. I love football and cricket and used to play them both reasonably well until old age and a bad back intervened! I look forward to working with the PTA this year.
