Fundraising Activities

Yes, of course the PTA is a big fundraiser although this is not our only function.

Fundraising ideas are generated by the PTA Committee - or from anyone involved with the school - and then volunteers are sought to bring the ideas to reality.

To give an understanding of what can be achieved the PTA was proud to donate financial contributions to the school over the past three years of : -

Year 2006/2007 - $500,000
Year 2007/2008 - $500,000
Year 2008/2009 - $625,000

Where has this money been used?

Well, the PTA always tries to add something extra to the school - not just to supplement existing budgets.

We try to split our available funds over two main areas. One is the "wish list". This is a list generated by teachers of items that either fell outside budgets or that can add significantly to the ambiance and well-being of the school.

Examples of wish list items provided over the recent past include :

Tables/Chairs in foyer
Model United Nations
Cricket equipment
Mathematics Competition
Dictionaries / encyclopaedias
Laptops
EAL reference material PCs
Pedal Karts
Climbing Wall
"Global Nomads"
Cameras
Wheelchair
Weather Station
Electronic white Boards
Refurbishment of Medical Room

The remaining funds are provided to the Principal to enhance the School's Development programme. At present the Development plan, which is always discussed openly with parents, includes ICT, Counseling, premises and similar topics.

How does the PTA raise these funds?

• Membership dues
• Administration of the School Bus service in conjunction with Kwoon Chung Transport Limited
• Sales of uniform and stationery & development of new items for purchase
• Catering at School events such as the Christmas Concert and Sports Day
• The WIS School Fair, which is our primary fund raising event for the year.

Last years’ WIS Fair was the most successful yet, requiring huge organisation and the goodwill of several willing volunteers! This year we are trying a new approach to the WIS Fair with the creation of a Fund Raising Sub-Committee, who will meet on an informal basis to conceptualise and organise the Fair. If you would like to be part of the Sub-committee, meet other parents and take an active – however small - role in running the Fair, please volunteer!
