WIS Scouts Volunteer at HK100 Race

Last weekend, the Scouts volunteered to run the check-point for the HK100 Race (http://www.hk100-ultra.com/) at Beacon Hill. The HK100 Race is a 100km ultra endurance race and this was our 6th year running a check-point for the HK100. The Scouts worked through the night after arriving at Beacon Hill at 9.30am on Saturday and left at 9.30am on Sunday.

Despite freezing cold conditions, the Scouts were well prepared and kept warm so they were able to look after the runners well.
The Scouts were seen cheering the runners all day and all night. If the runners weren’t well, they looked after them very well by talking to them, giving a lot of support, serving hot drinks and food, handing out blankets and heat packs. It was very encouraging to see the Scouts motivating runners and kept encouraging the runners non-stop although they were quite sleepy, cold  and tired themselves and lived up to one of the most important Scout rules: “Think of others before themselves!”
Also well done to the Scouts who were responsible for the washing up, cooking pasta, making hot soup and hot drinks, serving pot noodles, cutting fruits, making sandwiches, refilling cold drink bottles, picking up rubbish, keeping fires going, writing the runners’ numbers at the entrance and exit, going around and offering the food and drinks, picking up  rubbish around the check-point, loading the equipment onto the bus and putting the equipment back to the storeroom at school. The Scouts worked around the clock to ensure all was done well.
Thank you very much to the following leaders and parents who came to help. We couldn’t have done it without your support.
Mr Sung (Brandon’s Dad and our assistant Scout Leader)
Mr Tang (Benjamin and Dorothy’s Dad and our assistant Scout Leader)
Mr Hong (Lachlan’s Dad and our assistant Scout Leader)
Mr Childs (Kieran’s Dad and our Cub Scout Assistant Leader)
Mrs Gibb (Our assistant Scout Leader)
Mr Tang (Benjamin and Dorothy Tang’s uncle)
It was also great to see Ms Craig, WIS Vice Principal, who happened to also be a competitor for this race, pass our check-point. Well done to Ms Craig!

Due to the severe weather the race was cancelled about 5am on Sunday keeping in mind the safety of the runners.

Well done again to our Scouts for your hard work. We are so proud of you and your hard work.
