🕵️‍♂️Uncovering Histories: Students Dive into Genealogy with 'Who Do You Think You Are?' CAS Activity 📜

CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) activities at West Island School are one of the ways we provide personalised education to each and every student. ✨

One of these activities is a new one called "Who Do You Think You Are?", based on the BBC programme of the same name. In this show, genealogists research the family history behind different celebrities and present it to them. But instead of celebrities, students participating in this CAS activity will work in pairs to find out more about the genealogy behind school staff members.

During our IB DP Year 12 Biology field trip, our incredible students truly embodied the IB Learner Profile! 🧬✨ They measured sea snail sizes and explored the rich biodiversity of the rocky shore. As inquirers, their curiosity knew no bounds, and as thinkers, they delved deep into analyzing their findings. 🧐🔍

Working in groups, they showcased stellar communication skills by sharing insights and collaborating seamlessly. 🤝💬 This hands-on experience not only honed their scientific skills but also fostered a caring attitude towards environmental stewardship. 🌍❤️

🌟 We had the pleasure of hosting renowned neurologist Jared Cooney Horvath at West Island School this Tuesday. Dr. Horvath shared fascinating insights into the science of learning with our Year 9, 10 and 12 students.
Dr Horvath engaged with a group of Year 12 students aspiring to pursue Biology and Psychology-related subjects at universities, exploring the concept of emergence and posing the thought-provoking question: 'Are you merely your brain, or is there something more to you?'"

🌿 Eleven WISustain students attended the ESF x TASS (The Alliance of Sustainable Schools) sustainability leaders conference at ESF Discovery College last week.

They participated in sustainability-based challenges, heard from inspiring climate leaders like Clover Hogan, Anthony Dixon, and Dr. Margaret Burnett, and engaged in a panel discussion with climate NGO founders Carly Leung, Justin Yeung, and Mark Cheung.

The conference provided valuable insights into sustainability leadership, the importance of networking, and overcoming challenges faced by youth climate activists. 🌍

🌿 Eleven WISustain students attended the ESF x TASS (The Alliance of Sustainable Schools) sustainability leaders conference at ESF Discovery College last week.

They participated in sustainability-based challenges, heard from inspiring climate leaders like Clover Hogan, Anthony Dixon, and Dr. Margaret Burnett, and engaged in a panel discussion with climate NGO founders Carly Leung, Justin Yeung, and Mark Cheung.

The conference provided valuable insights into sustainability leadership, the importance of networking, and overcoming challenges faced by youth climate activists. 🌍

Year 12 Ikshita Kumar said:"The conference was amazing, the talks were very informative and helped us plan for the future, not only for the school but for job prospects too. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know other students, getting ideas and learning what they have done in their school."

🕵️‍♂️Uncovering Histories: Students Dive into Genealogy with 'Who Do You Think You Are?' CAS Activity 📜

CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) activities at West Island School are one of the ways we provide personalised education to each and every student. ✨

One of these activities is a new one called "Who Do You Think You Are?", based on the BBC programme of the same name. In this show, genealogists research the family history behind different celebrities and present it to them. But instead of celebrities, students participating in this CAS activity will work in pairs to find out more about the genealogy behind school staff members.

During our IB DP Year 12 Biology field trip, our incredible students truly embodied the IB Learner Profile! 🧬✨ They measured sea snail sizes and explored the rich biodiversity of the rocky shore.
