Golden Try Heartbreak for C Grade Boys Rugby

West Island School’s C grade boys were impressive in their performance at the HKSSF Grand Final at the Football club on Thursday evening.

It was very much a match of two halves and a climactic 5 minutes of extra time! West Island got off to a great starting making the first score and converting it.  Unfortunately KGV quickly came back and were punishing, running in a few very fast tries, by half time West Island were down by 24 points.

After halftime, West Island came out fighting using some clever tactical play to close down the  opposition players who had caused such and upset in the first half.  This allowed our forwards to gradually claw back try after try until in the final minutes of the game West Island scored a great try and conversion that levelled the result at 40 points each.  Full time.

The boys had a 5 minute rest and then it was back for 10 minutes of extra time each boy knowing that the first team to score would be victorious.  Both teams were evenly matched contesting every centimeter of ground and position of the ball, unfortunately after some great plays a deep West Island kick was returned by KGV’s fastest player who was able to score in the far corner much to the heartbreak of the C Grade West Island boys.

West Island C Graders, you were amazing and we’re all really proud of you.  Well done, we look forward to seeing what you can do next year.

Our thanks to all the staff who have taken time out to coach and support the team during the year.
