Principal’s Message

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,

This week was one of decisions, most importantly for our students.

The school hosted our options evening on Thursday evening for Year 9 and Year 11 students as they consider their choices for IGCSE, BTEC and Elective courses, and their choices for IB and ID respectively.

The process becomes smoother each year in my view, as students have many chances to talk through their interests and passions. Increasingly at WIS, we have created courses which enable students to go into areas which develop skills such as communication or genuine problem solving. Our Elective courses are now becoming established as part of this focus and I am proud to see the diversity of the options we give students to go further.

At IB, we offer every subject which the IB allows. This year for the first time we will offer HL Sports Science and also World Politics at SL. We are the only school to offer Dance for the second year running now within ESF, as we wish to really promote the Arts and we know that these subjects involve real creative thinking and group-work skills, which extend students thinking repertoire.

Finally, of course, this week was a decision making one for myself. By now I do hope you have received my email explaining that I will be stepping down from my leadership of this inspirational community at the end of this academic year.

I wanted to leave on a high so to speak, with the school having had the very best results ever in all our programmes this year and with the spirit of the community firmly established. It was not an easy or a hasty decision, as you can all imagine. Rest assured I will be striving for the next two terms to ensure that the school is handed over to my successor in good shape and in good heart. There will be a time for more reflection, of course, later in the year.

Thank you for your on-going support.

Yours,

Jane
