Principal’s Message

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,

This week, we saw the second week of the Creative Arts Festival with numerous events from African drumming on Cultural Day and from showstoppers to dance. We also hosted our first every Christmas Market with all proceeds going to our service project.  Students loved getting involved from their service areas and created a wonderful seasonal atmosphere in school. Another event was our Alumni Tea on Thursday evening for returning students – a great chance for us to see how the students are doing at university and to catch up with old friends too.

The Winter Wonderland Concert on Wednesday evening was a real inspiration to us all. The pieces were ambitious, diverse and showcased student talents including our very own harp player (very unusual for a school!) strings, clarinet group, choir, orchestra, jazz band and more. I felt the concert was a notch up from a very good event last year. It was good to see musical talent developing still further at WIS. Leigh Dalgarno and Ben Jolly lead the students to these heights through support and through challenge this term, and the outcome was wonderful. It also started to create a feeling of Christmas just around corner with carols and songs to match that mood interwoven into the excellent programme. Thanks to Dan Betteridge and to Susan Tan for their input into the concert this year. Christmas is about giving and the gift the students gave to me in my last Christmas concert at WIS as Principal was a memory of just how superb this school is and how talented my students are.

At the end of this term I want to thank all parents, staff and students for making the school the very best in Hong Kong for learning in all its many elements.

Students have been excellent at embracing opportunity, exhibiting politeness, continually enquiring and striving to be the very best in their passions. Students have also learned from mistakes and developed through trial and error until the learning sticks for them.

Staff have continued to impress me with their care for each student and in the ways they inspire each and every day.

Parents have been supportive of the school in its striving to develop, in supporting  events and through a dialogue with us as partners, the PTA have continued to work hard.

As I write, I am preparing for the last assembly of 2015. My message will be simple: that we should all remember the true message of Christmas which is the importance of giving to others through forgiveness, happiness and thoughtfulness which are the very best of those gifts. I hope you receive all three this holiday season.

Have a wonderful holiday and see you in 2016.

Yours,

Jane
