Principal’s Message
Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,
Welcome back and a very Happy New Year to you!
We are looking forward to a good 2016 educationally with plenty of opportunities for students to stretch themselves and further develop skills in their learning.
Students learn from error and mistake. As we head into the Year 13 mock season and reflect on the Year 11 mocks, it is pertinent to reflect on this. It is by trying and by not getting things quite right that students learn and develop further. Lessons, assessments and experiences all have moments of ‘failure’ but it is the child who is resilient enough to remember that failure can lead to success. So if your child has not done as well as they might in an assessment or in the mock exams, do speak to them about what they have learned from the experience and what they will now do to learn even better.
WIS is also a school which values community spirit alongside those moments of learning and looks to use these events to also raise funds to aid student learning even further.
As such, the PTA is in the midst of creating a new event to ‘put the fun into fundraising’. They are looking to host a Glamour Night for parents and the community. The concept is to sell second hand designer clothing and accessories – in excellent condition – alongside a chance for parents to have a spa experience while they enjoy a fun evening at WIS. At the same time, parents will be raising funds for our service projects, but mainly for the school as we look to develop more teaching areas and resources for your child.
Please contact the PTA for more details. We are particularly looking for someone with an interest in overseeing the event as Project Manager, but also need people with links to the fashion industry or to storage companies/solutions. However, anyone with a passion to help us would be wonderful.
Finally, we encourage you to come along to the school events on offer this term. Sports Day, for example, is next Thursday and we look forward to seeing you there to support your child and the school.
Yours,
Jane Foxcroft
