ESF World Wise Geography Quiz

The annual ESF World Wise Geography Quiz took place on Thursday, 7 January at Island School, and West Island School were represented by nine enthusiastic students from Year 9. Heats at West Island School were coordinated by Year 12 Geography students Carice Chan, Seb Reiser, Ojas Bhorkar and Francesco Cammisa. The rounds included topics such as “Which Kills More?” questions and a map task named ‘Where in Hong Kong?’ The nine highest scoring students were invited to take part in the finals hosted this year by Island School.

At Island School, students competed against students from the other ESF schools. The competition included a ‘Where in the World’ round and a ‘Geography in the News’ round. Halfway through the quiz, WIS were in second place. At this point, Island School alumni and former Geography student Jo Stewart spoke passionately about his experiences in the Himalayas, and the real life Geography that he witnessed during his time there. His photos were incredible and showed a huge range of fascinating landscapes from the region.

The final two rounds were just as intense as the first three, with a team memory game of Geography fieldwork and a round on culture. As the quiz came to a close, WIS placed third, with Discovery College in second place and KGV in first. Students had great fun representing WIS and we hope to see our name on the trophy next year.

Thank you and well done to the following students who took part in the quiz: Tara Relan, Jason Wu, Jake Graham, Cherie Chan, Chi Chun Chan, Sean Lam, Moksh Vaswani, Kai Lambon and Shiva Bala. Many thanks to the Year 12 Geography students for their help coordinating the rounds.
