Principal’s Message
Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,
This week, we had a number of successes to be proud of.
Firstly, in our curriculum:
Our IB Visual Art students held the ‘IB Visual Art Show’ to much acclaim. This year, there was a real sense of diversity in the pieces submitted. Students were able to speak to me with great knowledge and awareness both of the artists who influenced them, and also of the journey they have been on with art. My thanks to Mr Stanley, Ms Dryland, Ms Oxford and Ms Haworth for their continued inspiration and support to the students. It was a great showcase of talent.
We also held our Year 11 Language oral examinations with the Languages faculty overseeing the final outcome of two years of oral practice. The students were well-prepared and I am sure we will see some good results in the summer.
In extracurricular work, we had two great successes:
Our sailing team, led by Mr Houghton, came 4th in the Boase Cohen & Collins Inter-School Sailing Festival 2016 in Divisions A and B. Given that we placed last in the 2015 regatta, this is a wonderful achievement for the school.
We also learned that WIS placed 1st in the Standard Chartered D Grade League Division 1 in Rugby, which is an amazing achievement for the school and our Year 7 boys. Mr Madden is to be thanked for his coaching and inspiration.
Yours,
Jane
