Lower Division Equestrian – Final Report
Last Friday and Saturday, the Lower Division Equestrian team, accompanied by Mrs Yetman and Ms McAndrew, headed to Lo Wu Saddle Club to compete in the finals of the HKEF Inter-Schools Equestrian Competition. We competed against finalists from the top four equestrian teams/schools in Hong Kong, following heats involving 22 schools last term. On Friday, we worked with our horses to plait their manes and tails, groomed and tacked them up to get them ready for a dressage competition and to try out for the “Best Turned-Out” award. The competition for dressage was an eventful one to say the least. We had instances of horse tripping into the mud or misbehaving, and riders forgetting their dressage tests, all while being watched by two judges and riding in a swamp-like arena.
On Saturday, participants took part in a Speed Jumping course. Marco Wilson (8H2) and Rebecca Yetman (9H1) came fourth and fifth respectively with a time of 50.18 seconds and 57.69 seconds respectively.
West Island School’s lower division came third overall, an exciting conclusion to this year’s efforts and training.
Thank you to Ms Yetman and Ms McAndrew for the nonstop support and coaching.
