ESF Chef of the Year 2016 – Thank you Ms Cottam of Sha Tin College

It was a tense Friday, May 27. Sha Tin College was the venue for the Finals for the ESF Chef of the Year Competition.

Ines Chiu and Celeste Dechy arrived ready to rock the ESF world with their culinary skills. Both were presented with a limited edition ESF Chef apron and were given time to set up their stations.

There was representation from Sha Tin, Island, South Island, Discovery College and KGV. Previous champions were also in the mix; many Year 9s graced the Junior Round. Ines and Celeste had worked hard on preparing themselves for this day, and from entry to STC to finishing they did WIS proud.

The contestants were given two hours to create a Truck Style, but restaurant plated standard savory and sweet. Celeste and Ines presented to the four professional chefs and the CEO of ESF peppers filled with porcini and chanterelle mushrooms and iberico Spanish ham béchamel with a homemade tomato cream sauce, garnished with rosemary. The sweet, For our dessert – orange blossom infused mini meringue, mango and raspberry pavlova with fresh vanilla whipping cream.

It was a fantastic day and all credit must go to Rebecca Cottam of Sha Tin College who organised the entire event. A great day had at Sha Tin and although the girls did not feature in the top three, they thoroughly deserve the accolade of WIS Chefs and ESF Finalists of the Year. Well done Ines and Celeste! I am sure they will be fighting fit and ready for next year. The girls were presented with vouchers for the delicious Blue Butcher burgers, homemade relish and the ultimate ESF Chef apron.

It was great to see the efforts of schools across ESF and to work with colleagues who are also passionate about food and fun in learning.
