Special Mention: Haana Rizvi
West Island School would like to acknowledge and mention Year 8 student Haana Rizvi who was the lead organiser in Hong Kong for the “WhoisHussain” Campaign #GIVE which happened on 18 June in more than 30 cities globally.
Haana along with other young volunteers tirelessly packed the food packets on Friday while fasting herself for the month of Ramadan, in time to deliver them to the needy the next day.Students and parents drove to 236-Tung Chau Street, Sham Shui Po, where the volunteers saw firsthand what poverty can be like. Haana made sure she smiled and passed on the food bags
It all went better than expected and volunteers were happy we made a small difference. Haana went on to now explain how she, “Now understands and values the whole essence of Ramadan even more. It’s not just practicing self control but knowing what being hungry can feel like and thus being happily able to share from whatever we have.”
A very rewarding day for Haana – well done!
