WIS at ISSF Volleyball – Updates
U16 Boys
ISSF this year, was our first time at a real competition, and while we made many errors during our first game, the next few games got better as we practiced more and more. Although we had a lot of training, we had to work on our decision making. Since most of us were fairly inexperienced and ISSF was our first competition, we had to work on it frequently when calling for the ball. We hope we are able to do well in HKSSF as there are more challenges to face this year.

U20 Boys
This year, we had a fantastic end to a great season, and a truly phenomenal performance from the A Grade Volleyball team. After losing our first set 25-19 in the semi-finals, we managed to recover and find our momentum, winning the second and third set. Despite a strong start during the first set of the finals, we were ultimately defeated in the two sets, finishing 2nd in the ISSFHK D2 A Grade Volleyball competition. With the smallest roster of team members in our division, the beginning of the season was difficult, with clashing schedules between different sports teams, an abundance of academic deadlines and few training sessions. Each week of competition went by quickly, both victories and defeat strengthening our resolve as a team, developing us as players and more importantly, team members. We would like to express our gratitude and thanks to our coach Mr Moes for his dedication to coaching, the skills and knowledge he imparted on us and his constant encouragement that helped us improve day-in and day-out, whether in training or competition.

U20 Girls
This week, the A grade Volleyball girls successfully dug, set and spiked their way towards gold. As a team we worked tenaciously hard, with most of the girls committed to training on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. However, nothing felt better than validating all our effort on Wednesday at CIS when we managed to beat out CAIS 2-0 in the ISSFHK Division 2 semi-finals and won an extremely intense final match against CIS with a score of 26-24 in the last set, (shout out to our amazing cheering squad).
This year not only did we bring home the ISSF banner but we managed to sharpen our skills and relationship as a team, and for this we thank our coaches Mr Jimson Lam and Mr Moes for pushing us to the limit and carving our way to victory. As a team, we are so proud that our initial passion and interest for volleyball sparked into a new experience that I am sure the Year 12s and the graduating Year 13s will carry on with them. We have learned a lot in this season from teamwork and endurance to patience and positivity but in the end, what really brought us all together was our determination to improve and win (mainly to win). So as we bring our gold medals home this year, ISSFHK Division 1 better watch out because next year we’re in it to win it!
