Kowloon Street Sleepers Update at WIS
A dedicated group of Year 12 West Island School students have been regularly volunteering with the Kowloon Street Sleepers every second Wednesday and Friday. After school, the team gets together to shop for food and hygiene items, pack and hand out care packages to the street sleepers in the Sham Shui Po district. Recently, there have been some remarkable developments which will further their cause and in turn, further assist the street sleepers who are struggling with day-to-day needs.
The team will be introducing a Clothing Bin to WIS which will allow the WIS community to donate clothes to the street sleepers. Caitlin Dye and Glen To will be working with the DT faculty to put the finishing touches on Caitlin’s design and build the bin.
WIS also works closely with Feeding HK who kindly donate water, juice and muesli bars each month.
On January 25, the Quarry Bay School student charity group have organised a clothing drive for the homeless in Hong Kong, with the aim to collect a piece of warm clothing from each family, which the WIS group will hand out after Chinese New Year. “The children are really excited by the chance to help others who are less fortunate and it has given our community a good chance to talk as a family about the street sleepers in Hong Kong,” Mr Leone from Quarry Bay School explained.
These are just a few of the many accomplishments by the Friday group. We laud them for their incredibly selfless work and wish them all the best for the rest of the year!
Well done to: Celine Jojo, Victoria Lawrence, Leon Suen, Giammarco Zwahlen, Rachel Tse, Caitlin Dye, Isar Chan, Roos Laurijsen, Kimberly Tsui, Glen To, Grace To, Krish Buxani and Michael Jewell.
Special thanks to Ms Leone for all her support and coordination.
