A Successful Day of Service for Year 7 Students
Throughout our time at Kennedy School and currently at WIS, we learnt many shocking facts about the harsh reality that we live in. This prompted me to consider how we could help and West Island has given us the perfect opportunity which include a soup kitchen, packaging workshop and other activities. Several weeks prior, we initiated a food drive with our Dynasty bringing in different items. The competition was very intense as there were WIS Credits and a tutor breakfast at stake here. In the end, we all exceeded expectations with Song having the most (300+ canned goods).
During the Service Day itself, we cooked a minestrone soup in the Food Technology rooms. We packaged all our donations to be given away to Feeding HK. Then we tried to communicate the message “Stop Food Waste” through drama, and participated in an interesting activity where you tried to feed a family on a minuscule budget.
During lunchtime, we sold the soup earning around $2000. That may not sound like much, but it amounts to around 200 cups of soup sold.
Overall, the day was a phenomenal success. All excess soup was served to the Kowloon Street Sleepers and proceeds collected went to Feeding Hong Kong.
Thank you to all the teachers who helped make this Service Day such a success!
