C Grade Boys Rugby team win HK School Rugby Final
The C Grade Boys have reached numerous finals over the past four year’s and faced KGV in all of them. However, they have never managed to record a final victory. However, this year, a team that has grown in stature from game to game, ended a repeat in history and recorded a memorable victory in this year’s HK School Rugby final.
The C Grade boys competed well all season and made it to the semi final after some hard fought group games. They faced a Harrow team who had recorded a number of impressive victories this season. However, WIS produced a fantastic display of dominant rugby and won comfortably to set up another final against our old rivals, KGV.
It was going to take a performance full of character, determination and quality to beat a KGV team that were undefeated throughout the whole season leading up to the final.
The C Grade Boys, determined to change the usual script, started confidently and traded tries all throughout the game. WIS grew in strength and finally took the lead in the last five minutes, with a fantastic team try and excellent conversion. In the dying seconds KGV went over the line, but needed a kick to bring the game level. The ball never made it through the posts, hitting the upright and sending the WIS team and crowd wild with celebration. West Island School were crowned champions, recording a memorable, long overdue and well deserved 40-38 victory over KGV.
Well done boys!
