D Grade Boys Rugby Win HKSRU Inter School Championship

Congratulations to our D Grade Boys Rugby team who were crowned the HKSRU Inter School Rugby Champions for 2017/2018.

A very talented group of players represented WIS this year and produced some fantastic flowing rugby to secure a spot in this year’s finals. The team went into the final week, needing to secure victory out of all four games in order to win this year’s competition.

A solid start saw the team cruise to victory over Discovery College and then backed this win up with a well fought out victory over Discovery Bay International School.

The remaining two games were arguably our most challenging, but the team really stood up to the challenge and secured a convincing 15-5 victory over one of the tournaments strongest teams; Kellett, who were undefeated up to this point. This meant that the boys went into their final game needing to just avoid defeat to be crowned this year’s champions.

A competitive game soon settled down into a convincing victory over Harrow, and this year’s trophy deservedly awarded to West Island School. This year’s tournament highlighted the strength and depth in our youth rugby, with the team playing through 16 very competitive games in total this season and coming out on top.

Well done to our young, committed and talented rugby boys here at West Island School.
