Environmental Week at WIS
The WIS Environmental Week was a success!
We raised around HKD $3,000 which will all go to supporting Masarang International Organisation.
On Monday, students and teachers gathered for the bake sale, the games and the first and ever “Who wants to be an Environmentalnire?” Quiz. Team Cartwell (Mr Welsh, Mr Lant and Mr Murchie) and Team Uncharmed (Ms McAndrew, Mr Head and Mr Couch) were exceptional and the scores were tight. But team Cartwell pushed for the last stretch and are honoured 2017’s Environmentalnaires!
On Wednesday, we showed a documentary – Cowspiracy – which revealed to our students the biggest cause of global warming might not be fossil fuels but instead the beef industry!
On Thursday, we had the honour of having Jo Wilson, the founder of Living Lamma, as a guest speaker. She shared about the alarming problem of plastic waste in our oceans and the devastating consequences to our environment but also our health. She urged us to change our habits of plastic consumption and spread the word to our family and friends.
As a member of the West Island School community, what should our next step be?
