Girls Junior Hockey Match Report – WIS vs Sha Tin College
On Tuesday 6 February, West Island School played their first Junior Hockey match against Sha Tin College. West Island played extremely well; all members of the team putting in 100% to win convincingly with a scoreline of 6-0..
Some things that helped us to win was that we were good at passing to others in the team and our communication skills were great. All the girls played well as a team; Raine was scored 2 goals. Jassie scored a hatrick and and Bonnie also scored a fantastic goal. We were great at encouraging each other whilst playing, which gave us more confidence in ourselves and pushed us to try our best.
However, we could have improved looking up when we were passing, because sometimes when it was our ball and we passed, we would accidently pass to the wrong team. We are working on this in training with Coach Patrick, Mrs Craig and Ms Caldwell.
This gives our opposition more chances to score goals. We could have also improved by spreading out more, using the width and the forwards pushing into the D more often, so they can be ready to score more goals.
The fact that we had many players, compared to the other team gave us the chance to take carry out lots of substitution, and therefore lots of breaks so we could try our very hardest whilst playing and not get too worn out.
Overall, I think our team worked very well together, so hopefully we will continue this throughout the season and continue to be victorious.
Every member of the hockey squad matters , on and off the pitch. A huge thank you to Maria Bateman, Mila Kirsten and Xin Yao Liu for coming to support. With over 30 now in the Junior squad, this really is testament to how popular Hockey has become at WIS. The numbers just keep growing. I hope that this continues throughout the year and I encourage all of our players to bring their friends along to training on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
