Great Rugby Successes over Festive Break
West Island School is proud to share with you some exciting Rugby news over the festive period. After several stages of (nerve-racking!) selections; Tanya Dhar was selected to represent the Hong Kong U19s Dragons Ladies team for their showcase game against the Overseas girls at this year’s Prudential New Year’s Day Youth Rugby Tournament. The Dragons defeated the Overseas team 17-0 in the 15s game played on New Years Day.
The HKRU’s National Age Grade selection process for the U19s age group is extremely rigorous and competitive. Tanya being born in 2000 belongs to the youngest year in this age group; so making a favorable impact with the Union coaches is understandably that much harder in the face of stiff competition from a bigger and older pool of players.
A huge well done to Tanya on her achievements and we look forward to seeing her progress further in 2017.
Other WIS rugby players who participated include:
A huge well done to Freddie Bull who was the only WIS schoolboy to play in the annual New Year’s Day match for Hong Kong U16s National Age Grade. A great achievement considering he is in the younger age bracket. He was the starting Hooker, and part of a very strong Hong Kong team who went on to beat the Overseas Boys 34-7.
