Haydn Ching is second runner up in Asian Karting Open Championship
Congratulations to Haydn Ching who placed second runner up trophy in the first round of the Asian Karting Open Championship (AKOC).
The event is a regional competition where racing kart drivers compete for the right to represent the region in the “Karting des Fagnes” of the IAME International Final 2018 that will take place in Mariembourg (Belgium).
The AKOC Round 1 Macau race consisted of 3 days of racing. On the first day, Haydn completed the practice sessions on the unfamiliar and challenging wet track. Second day begins the qualifying heats. In Heat 1 he placed second with his team mate, beating more seasoned competitors from the Philippines and China.
Unfortunately, in Heat 2 he had a bad collision with the same team mate with substantial damage to his front steering, and was not able to finish. Despite the setback, his resilience took him through Heat 3 where he came back to finish fourth.
At the final race on the last day, in close and fierce competition, and with repeated changes of the lead between the top 3 karts, he managed to come third in the race.
Congratulations and well done to Haydn!
