HKSSF Cross Country Championships (Fanling) 2018
The Division 1 cross country championships took place on Monday 3 November, in which 60 West Island School students across all three HKSSF grades took part in what turned out to be a tough days running! Boys finished 3rd overall and Girls placed overall 5th out of the schools.
With unexpected high temperatures and an up and down course, our runners were really tested physically and mentally. Running against 12 other schools from both the international and local schools systems, WIS took to the Fanling course with strong squads ready to put all their hard training from Tuesday track, Thursday sunrise and the ISSFHK races into action!
Across the grades, for both boys and girls, there were some extremely strong performers such as Ashley Grantham placing 10th, Lila Man and Jasmine Drew coming in 16th and 14th in their respective races. On the boys side, Tommy Hall ran in placing 7th in the C-Grade which, for a Year 7 student. is an amazing finish, while Rafe Man and Swiss Duangthip came in 4th and 5th respectively in the B-grade.
The strongest combined international schools squad at the championships and it was the result of all the hard work leading up to the races. Remember – train hard, run fast and make it to the squad next year!!
Well done everyone!
