Principal’s Message

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,

During this time of year, I am busy with recruitment of staff for 2016 and I am in and out of school working with my other colleagues often at ESF Centre in the run up to Chinese New Year. It is always an interesting process often including promotional opportunities for colleagues within WIS as well as inviting new thinking into the school for the future.

The Principal recruitment is under way for my replacement, and the school council is being briefed on a regular basis as to the status of this process. The procedure is rightly a rigorous one, led by ESF with the school council in partnership.

This week I also wish to thank my colleagues in showing some flexibility with aspects of our uniform policy during the colder weather. Allowing students to wear extra layers under school uniform has always been acceptable but we additionally allowed coats and jackets which are not a part of school uniform, to be worn just for these few unusually cold days, since the temperature fell below 10 degrees during some mornings.

Next week, while it is forecasted to be cold again, but not as cold as this week, we do expect students to go back to normal with uniform. As a reminder, students may wear their PE kit to school only if they have PE as period one so as to maximise lesson time for them. They are allowed to wear leggings during cold weather for PE, but not with normal uniform where black or grey tights or socks are expected.

We would like to ask parents to aid us with a clear stance on uniform as we do tell students to wear their uniform with pride. From Monday onward, please ensure we are back to wearing layers beneath sweatshirts and fleeces (available from the PTA all year round).

Finally, in keeping with the topic of attire, I am pleased to be present our second ever Impulse 2.0 Charity Fashion Show which is taking place this evening at school. The show will further echo our diverse student population which will be evident in the inclusive nature of all our models.

I am very proud to have been asked to model a dress designed by upper school student, Ashika Rohira who has a desire to become a fashion designer in the future.

I hope to see many of you there.

Yours,

Jane Foxcroft
