Principal’s Message
Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,
Congratulations to the C Grade Netball Team who have played exceptionally well and won the Hong Kong Schools netball tournament last weekend. Another team demonstrating sustained effort and ambition is the Indoor Rowing team. Alessandro Systermans and Mikkel Christensen placed in the top five A Grade individual boys and the overall team were champions this year finishing with 84 points at the HKSSF Rowing Competition.
As well as the activities our students undertake, West Island is known for encouraging and supporting young people in their service learning. Service comes in many forms: informing yourself about an important issue, a change in your own habits, giving time or capital and always within relationships of mutual respect.
Monday began well with the Inter Dynasty Coin Challenge in support of Bethune House. I couldn’t think of a better organisation to give our service to. Domestic Helpers are the often unsung backbone to our economy and through no fault of their own may fall into crisis. The work of Bethune House is aligned with our responsibility as global citizens and our values in showing compassion. In the space of one hour, a total of 22,099.70 HKD was raised from loose change that is often sitting in our homes. Well done to Han for pulling ahead in their service challenge.
Good luck to Qing and Song on Friday for their service endeavours on behalf of Feeding HK & SRDC (Society for the Relief of Disabled Children). The theme of ‘fun in the sun’ seems in perfect alignment with the weather this week.
And for families who wish to offer their service, please save the date for ESF’s Hong Kong Run next academic year. Plenty of time to train over the long weekend.
School is back in session on Wednesday.
Enjoy your rest.
Yours,
Christopher Sammons
