Principal’s Message
Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,
Congratulations to Qing and Song who organised a great day of yellow and orange themed fun to take us into the long weekend. The cakes sold well and the singing was a nice addition to our lunchtime, heard throughout the Pok Fu Lam park. HK$16,000 was raised for Feeding Hong Kong, Society for the Relief of Disabled Children and Bethune House who were also presented with a cheque from the Dynasty Coin Challenge. Well done to Dynasty Leaders and thank you to the generosity of our community.
It will be a shorter week and the pace will pick up now as the end of term draws closer so don’t forget to order your year book before they are all taken. Please click here to place your order.
On Monday 28 May, ESF has organised for KELY Support Group to conduct a parent workshop entitled “Communicating Effectively with Young People about Drug and Alcohol Use.” The workshop will run from 6:30 – 8:00pm at ESF Centre, 25/F, 1063 King’s Road, close to the Tai Koo MTR station. There is no charge for the session and space is limited to 150 attendees. Registration is based on a first come, first served basis. Click here for further details and to reserve a spot.
I was also contacted by Dr Hannah Reidy this week to let me know about an event for parents and educators. Mind Hong Kong was established by Hannah and her colleagues last year with the intention of improving awareness and understanding of mental health in Hong Kong. As part of a school speaker series, the charity is holding its first parents event on Tuesday 5 June at Swiss German School. Representatives from Australia’s Black Dog Institute will be on hand to give advice and support to parents as a world leader in teenage mental health issues. You can find out more and book your tickets here.
The IB exams are now completed and there will be many sighs of relief for our Year 13 students. We look forward to meeting with parents and students at the Formal on Friday evening.
Yours,
Christopher Sammons
