Principal’s Message
Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,
Great to read and hear about the Horizons Week activities. We are preparing a video of experiences to share with you before the end of term – thank you to all teaching staff and Rathi Nandakumar for holding us all up and completing the necessary back office work. Great team work West Island!
Our Inter Dynasty rice race also came to a close this week after raising a staggering 2111.8 Kg. Hats off to Chi Chun Chan and Amanda Nathan in coordinating our communities’ efforts, Qing being the overall winners.
Elizabeth Stewart, Ophelia Wong and Sin Ying Wun won accolades at the 70th Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival, and four Year 7 students achieved highest honours of The Golden Bauhinia Award. These cub scouts – Chloe Leung, Gavril Chan, Phoenix Brooks and Aaron Frain, have been recognised by Carrie Lam for outstanding commitment and skills to the movement. In the first Senior Dressage Heat for the Equestrian season at Tuen Mun, Hannelore Beijerbergen competed in a very strong field and was placed 4th.
Thank you to Year 7 parents who attended our consultation evening, gave feedback about transition and what they need to know next in navigating our school. Students shared their experiences of MYP and discussed what we want for our children at West Island School. If you were not able to make the evening and wish to add your voice to our March gathering, please let me know.
The unmistakable jingle of bells, flashing lights and pine scent arrived in school this week and it feels as though there are some Elves in the building somewhere……a few tickets remaining for Elf-The Musical for those who wish to find out.
Christmas Market and Christmas Concert locked in too for you all to begin your celebrations. I look forward to meeting you there.
Just enough time left for the last and final rallying cry, mustering WIS parents for the ESF run on 26 January.
