Principal’s Message

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,

Congratulations for the WIS PTA who have raised a record amount for the raffle to support us in developing the auditorium and swimming pool. There’s still time to take a last minute chance if you haven’t got a ticket and I am looking forward to seeing who wins the first prize to Chamonix at 3pm. I may be a bit wet as I am under the dunk tank just before but hope that you have the chance to drop in and spend some time with us tomorrow at the School Fair.

On Thursday, Digital Leaders participated in the 21st Century Learning Conference with 120 students from 12 different schools throughout China. During the day, student delegates were introduced to Adaptive Management tools that they can use to better manage groups and were also expected to run a range of technology training sessions for other delegates.  The highlight of the day was Juan Pablo Romero talking about his creation of safe spaces for young children to learn about art, music and culture. A number of teachers from across the Asia Pacific region also visited our tech faculty to explore our approach to design teaching and facilities at West Island.

Today was high energy with Dynasty leaders and students completing the ID Coin Challenge at break. The loose chance will be donated to our Hong Kong charities this year. Thank you everyone.

A date for everyone’s diary should be the evening with cyber-safety expert Susan McLean titled “Growing Up Online“. The session on 9 April held at West Island will advise parents and teachers on what the latest online risks are to young people. The themes of growing up are timeless – risk taking, romance and creating your self identity. Technology and social media, however, create unsafe environments if adults are not knowing and have approaches to keep their children safe. Susan will also talk about problematic internet use and gaming addictions.

Finally, well done to our athletes who represented WIS well at the HKSSF Athletics Championships. Many personal bests and team efforts to be proud of.

Hope to see you at the Fair!

Enjoy the weekend.

Yours,
Christopher Sammons
