Principal’s Message
Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,
Joy, laughter and dancing at our Learning Centre graduation party last Thursday. This opportunity to celebrate with families and young people is a highlight of my year and it was a real pleasure to see our students show such appreciation for their teachers. Anais’s singing was beautiful and watching her confidence grow in the spotlight is tangible as the years unravel. It was also heart-warming to hear Alex Wong give the keynote speech and hear that he never thought it was possible to be happy at school. Since arriving at West Island two years ago, he has flourished and demonstrates himself to be a talented and creative artist.
Last Friday was a further source of fun for the annual ESF Sports Festival held at West Island. Learning Centre students from across the foundation came together to celebrate their year and enjoy each other’s company in competition. Thank you to the IN team for leading this.
Congratulations to our Alumni David Muoka (Class of 2018). Always fully engaged in basketball alongside his studies, his dream was to secure a basketball scholarship. After attending a number of academies in Canada this year, he has worked really hard to earn his US athletics scholarship from Lamar University in Texas. It’s an extremely impressive feat for a student-athlete from Hong Kong to accomplish this in just one year. There have been only a handful of athletes who have achieved this previously.
Well done also to the Pre16 athletes who represented WIS at the ESF Biathlon Competition. We were narrowly beaten and achieved runners up in all but one category, with Year 7 boys taking a first place. Our Year 7 are giving very convincing performances in all areas of sport this year.
Please note the Main Office will be operating with a skeletal team and will be open from 8am to 3pm Monday to Friday. Please call in advance to ensure a member of staff is available, should you need to come to the school for any reason.
It has been an incredible year which has gone all too quickly. Thank you for the continued support of parents, the engagement of students and the care of teachers. Travel safely, enjoy family and cherish sleep and relaxation.
I look forward to seeing you all again in August.
West is best!
Yours,
Mr Chris Sammons
