Principal’s Message

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,

Imagine a world with no hunger. Sustainable Development Goal 2 from the United Nations is just that – what truly prevents the basic human need of nutrition being a reality?

At West Island, each Dynasty has begun competing to win first position in our annual food drive – 2019 ID Rice Race. This year, Feeding Hong Kong Charity is in particular demand amongst our local community as supermarkets have not donated as many items. There is only one week left to donate a bag of rice or two to help fill local shortages for some of the poorest in our neighbourhood, right here in Hong Kong. In this moment, a bag of rice will also convey some hope for people.

It’s been a happy week indeed with the sound of music playing on the sundeck every day. ID Star Search has been well organised by the Circle in the Water Committee despite our auditorium being out of action and the last number was some moving Cantopop. Congratulations to Han Dynasty for winning the overall competition. Thank you to the Music faculty for supporting this week’s events.

Well done to our Alumni Tanya Dhar for her progress in Rugby. Tanya gave one of the best leaving speeches at her graduation two years ago about her life in Rugby and what it taught her. Since then she has secured her university scholarship and continues to be an amazing role model for younger players, including being awarded Coach of the Year.

Let me the first to say Happy Diwali for next week. I am really looking forward to seeing you and celebrating at our Diwali Ball. If you can’t make that celebration, then it would be great to spend some time for coffee on the sundeck with our PTA Coffee Morning on Thursday.

Great weekend to you all

Yours,
Christopher Sammons
(Principal)
