Principal’s Message

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,

I hope you had a very good Chinese New Year holiday and are ready for the second half of the term! It is a vital one for our Year 11 and Year 13 students in particular, as they prepare for their examinations after Easter. Staff are working with them closely to ensure a real focus on excellence.

This week, we welcomed delegates from across the world taking part in the HK 21st Century Learning technology conference to the school to see our Design & Technology faculty in action. Stewart Ross, Teacher of Design here at WIS, presented to them the different ways we engage with learning in the technology faculty and students worked with them to show them the approaches to learning we believe in at WIS.

I was very pleased to hear students talking about how they learn through trial and error, through independent research, creative action and taking risks with ideas. Students from the lower school excelled in their explanations and delegates were impressed with their attitude. A good accolade for the school.

As a community we like to celebrate socially too and we hosted our annual staff CNY dinner on Thursday evening with around 90 staff attending. Team games added to the fun for the staff and support staff at this important cultural time of the year.

Finally, I would like to make you aware that students may be telling you of the news that Jonathan Law, our lifeguard, who has worked at WIS for five years has been taken seriously ill and is in the hospital. He is the sole breadwinner for his family. We are working on ways to support him and his family as we are a community who care for one another, so please be aware that students may be talking to you about this as we decide on our approach to this aid.

Yours,
Jane
