Principal’s Message
Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,
How time flies! We began in January letting you know about the music and sports festivals that were taking place this term and holding our own Sports Day. All of these have passed us by and West Island School students represented our community with honour and class.
The pinnacle of success was reached by our athletes who took part in the International Schools Sports Federation Athletics competition. We won four titles and the overall first place as a result of our fierce and competent performance. Well done to all those who took part and to the teachers who have prepared them so well.
Earlier this week saw our Year 9 prepared their final Personal Project. Inquiries into disability dogs, mach spacecraft, robots in medicine and the true meaning of art demonstrated the wealth of interest our learners possess. The presenters were personal, passionate and learned a number of skills which will last them for some time to come. Congratulations to Year 9.
Finally, parents were treated to the best $25 they are ever likely to spend in Hong Kong on Wednesday evening at the 25th Anniversary Concert. Soloists, singers, jazz band, ensemble, Chinese drummers, choir and Sinfonia treated us to the most memorable of evenings. We raised a glass at half-time to toast 25 years of music in West Island and the young people finished with a rousing performance of ‘Everything I do’ with Ka Jun’s first lead vocal in public. Indeed one to be remembered for some time to come.
It’s full speed ahead now with plans for our 25th Anniversary Gala on 2 June. More details to follow in the new term; it promises to be an exciting evening.
And now for rest. It has been a long and exciting term and all WIS students deserve a thoroughly good break. I look forward to welcoming you all back at the start of the new term and for those in the beginning phases of revision, balance is key.
Happy Easter,
Christopher Sammons
(Principal)
