Principal’s Message
Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,
It was a great privilege to interview so many students who have applied for the roles of Head Student. Everybody who put themselves forward is to be commended and could bring plenty to the role. Narrowing the field down to a final eight was tough due to the passion and expertise of our current Year 12. The final group of students will now go forward to elections following assembly questions after the Chinese New Year.
On Tuesday, our Chinese and Music department delivered an inspiring Chinese New Year Assembly with culture, dance, poetry, jazz dancing, sign language, folk dancing and of course, Dragon Dancing. Speaking in both Mandarin and English to welcome the Year of the Dog, we considered how astrology and astronomy have been interpreted here on earth. At a more practical level, it was just good fun. My thanks go to the students and teaching teams who have put many hours of hard work into making this happen.
Following a tough lunchtime yesterday on rowing machines for the Inter-Dynasty Rowing Competition, today is Han and Ming Dynasty Day with a Valentine’s twist – watching a Mandarin singing jazz apple dance on Tuesday and now seeing cupid moving through the classrooms, we have really enjoyed our week.
Have a peaceful weekend.
Yours,
Christopher Sammons
(Principal)
