Principal’s Message

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,

Thank you to the parents, staff and students who made our Spring Fair last week such a success. I have just about dried off and very grateful for the warmer weather this year. Most of all, the PTA have put in many hours of behind the scenes work to make things run smoothly. Our biggest thanks go to them.

As we were enjoying the fair, WIS sailors won second place in Feva Class for the 2018 Inter-School Sailing Competition, the best result ever for the WIS team. Thank you to Ines De Beer, parent volunteer for pulling the team and parents together and putting in enormous effort for the whole two days on site. Well worth this great result.

Tuesday was busy with visiting professors from Chinese University of Hong Kong to talk about their medical degree. As always, it was a delight to welcome them and hear about the success of former students.

Student leaders worked with Contender Charlie throughout the week in a two day workshop. The feedback has been some of the best we have seen as young people were taught about the most important lessons Shakespeare left behind: to understand the ways in which leadership is expressed in the narrative and what lessons we can take away for life. I saw some of the best student leadership through Ally Week. Lesson resources, lunchtime activities and speakers educated young people about the importance of language and creating a kind environment for all members of our community.

For myself, one of the highlights of the term was the Evening of Dance on Wednesday. Examination pieces, Momentum and Learning Centre students moved the audience with their performances and it was finished with second year students who came from the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts; inspirational and moving.

And it’s nearly over……..ESF hold their ultimate 50 year celebration at KGV starting at 3pm with a Carnival and school performances for us all to enjoy. Over 700 people have bought tickets to enjoy the day.

Finally, our Under 20 football team will be getting prepared for the Jing Ying Finals on Sunday at Po Kong Village Football Pitch. We are facing long term rivals DBS at 10:30am for anybody of who wants to cheer us on. The squad would love your support.

Yours,
Christopher Sammons
