Principal’s Message

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,

Last weekend started well with the ESF Evening of Dance. Both primary and secondary schools joined in the festival which began last year and parents were treated to humour, sadness, contemporary and classical interpretations of who we are in Hong Kong. In just an hour I experienced many emotions which was a testament to the quality of performance that our young people were able to give. My sincere thanks to Ms Jayne Cunliffe for the work that she undertook to coordinate and host the evening.

Staff came together on Monday to undertake further planning of our MYP Curriculum beginning August 2018. We focused on the depth and connections we can develop to make our guiding mission for creating responsible global citizens. An apposite moment following the reconciliation which happened on Sunday in the new era of Korea relations. We will share more of this work with parents in the coming term and how we are developing our approach at West Island School.

It was great to see our incoming Year 7 in the school over the past few days as our transition work begins. Students have been grappling with concepts, maker tasks, singing, drama and meeting the challenge of working in new collaborative groups.

A few reminders for parents, 2018 yearbook orders are now being accepted and details are available here.

I am also pleased to share the ESF app which will help the information flow for our community and for going forward will be the proffered method for booking parent evening appointments. You can download and try the app on iOS or Android by searching for ESF mobile VLE in the Google Play Store or App Store. Alternatively, for iOS, please click here and for Android, please click here.

Happy weekend!

Yours,
Christopher Sammons
(Principal)
