Students and Parents Experience WIS Tech Day
On Saturday 3 November, Year 7 students and their parents were invited into school for the official opening of the technology facilities and to learn about the nature and value of the technology subjects. We were very honored to have the distinguished architect and former member of Legco Patrick Lau and ESF CEO Belinda Greer speaking to us. Activities included a ‘master chef’ style mystery box challenge, an introduction to coding, sublimation printing, computer controlled embroidery, pewter casting, laser cutting and 3D printing.
Parent Testimonials:
“The WISTECH Day last Saturday was eye-opening for both parents and students alike. It gave us a better understanding that product design can be about designing practical things like paper clips and not just designing fashionable items like clothes or concept cars. The students made a clock hand using a 3-D printer, used a laser printer to cut the face of a clock from bamboo block, and melted pewter to make a key chain. We enjoyed ourselves and learnt many things. Thank you Mr Playford and team.”

“My son and I attended the WIS tech last weekend and before being shown around the refurbished textiles, kitchen and design studios we were treated to some inspiring talks and presentation from staff members, the head of the EFS organisation and the architect that originally designed the West island School campus. All very interesting indeed. The studios themselves really are the perfect environments for students to let their imaginations run wild, so much great equipment. We used 3D printing technology to create clock hands, and then made an octopus shaped clock face using a laser cutter… the final product looked amazing and Joseph, my son was completely engaged in the process. I wish I had those facilities when I was at school. An excellent day for the both of us.”
