West Island Digital Leaders Lead Cyber Saftey Assembly
During the recent Wednesday morning assembly period 12 West Island School Digital Leaders in Years 10, 11 and 12 delivered Digital Citizenship assemblies to the school. The topics that were delivered were as diverse as Curating your Digital Presence, being Upstanding to Cyberbullying and Sexting. Each audience consisted of 120 students and 10 staff.
The Digital Leaders had to research their topic, as not only were they expected to inform the students about the topic but they were also expected to provide their audience with strategies with dealing with the topic should they be on the the unfortunate end of these incidents. The Digital Leaders then had to build and practice their presentations as they were expected to engage with the audience with a range of digital audience participation tools.
Preparation for these assemblies took close to four weeks as the Digital Leaders have practised and refined both their presentations and presentation techniques in after school Digital Leader sessions. The Digital Leaders brought a very authentic and mature student voice to these sometimes difficult topics.
For parents who want to discuss these topics with their children at home we strongly recommend the following family tip sheets from Common Sense Media.
