West Island students crowned U19 Asia Rugby Champions
After weeks of training in preparation for the Asian rugby championship in qualification for the U20s Junior World Trophy to take place in Uruguay in August of 2017, including top teams representing Japan, Fiji, USA and Uruguay. A team of 25 players were selected to go to this tournament in Malaysia. West Island School students James Karton and Mikkel Christensen flew out to play three games in the space of eight days against Chinese Taipei, Sri Lanka and the hosts Malaysia. The team were hugely successful, winning the first game against Chinese Taipei 54-8, second game beating Sri Lanka 61-0 and were victorious in their final game against Malaysia 67-10 to crown Hong Kong the winners of the 2016 U19 Asia Rugby Champions for the 4th consecutive year.
