WIS are Champions at ESF 50th Anniversary Swimming Gala 2017
A keen and enthusiastic group of WIS’ finest swimmers packed the bus for a journey to the HK Sports Institute! The recently completed 50m, pool with electronic timing pads a sight to behold. To be able to compete there was a true priviledge. The eight WIS teams warmed up intensely with coach ADrian Ho and the action was soon under way as WIS, unfavourably draw in lane 1, went up against the other ESF secondary school SIS, DC, SC, RC, IS, and KGV . After some excellent performances and many of the WIS team achieving long course PBs it came to the relays with WIS and KGV, the leading schools. The relays, with every swimmer involved, were crucial and WIS prevailed as ESF Swim Champs 2017, narrowly pipping KGV.

STUDENT PERSPECTIVE
On Wednesday 21 June, West Island School sent out a team of elite swimmers to attend the 50th Anniversary ESF Swim Gala at the Hong Kong Sports Institute, along with 6 other ESF schools. We had a fantastic turnout and amazing team spirit. We had many swimmers breaking their personal bests and placing in the top 3 in their individual events.
Outstanding performances include the Year 10 Girls Freestyle relay, who placed 1st, and we had many amazing performances in the individual events as well. In particular, performances by Seychelle Rowe, Alison MacAlpin, Nick De Chazal, Erin Deayton, Maddy Lee, Jade Bruins, Lorenzo Croci, Jason Li, Laura Tan, Eve Messervey, and many more.
Overall, West Island was declared as the victorious and managed to claim a narrow victory over KGV by 2 points.
We would also like to thank our coaches: Adrian, Mr Lant and Mrs Luck for all their dedication to the WIS swim team, the ESF for holding the event, and all members of the WIS Swim Team for all their hours put into the pool.
