WIS At HKSSF Athletics Finals

The HKSSF Athletics Finals took place on the March 3 at Wanchai Sports Ground.  The WIS Girls were in tip top shape as they were safely placed in mid-table prior to the event however, the WIS Boys who struggled to gain big points in the field event finals on the 1st and 2nd days of the competition, were placed 15th out of 16th coming into the final day.

The weather was perfect for athletics and the day started off superbly for WIS with numerous WIS athletes winning medals and achieving personal bests.  In the 800m Sela Caldwell, who still has another year in the C grade finished 4th , smashing her PB and in C grade boys, Swiss Duangthip showed great determination to produce an impressive 3rd place finish.  The B and A Grade girls were dominant in the 800m with Jasmin Drew and Erin Brown becoming Champions, and Amy Tao placing 3rd.  In the 100m Hurdles Clover Chau took home 4th place with a great dip at the line that edged out the 5th place participant by 0.03 secs.

In the afternoon the highly anticipated finals of the 400m, 100m, 1500m (Boys), 4x100m, and 4x400m relays took place.  Ethan Graham came out with a new PB and 4th place in the B Grade boys 400m.  In the A Grade boys 400m Ryan Wan finished 4th place setting his new PB in 51.39secs.  In the 100m, Kam Luhng Pitter from B Grade boys finished 4th with an impressive time of 11.44 secs. Rafe Man and Swiss Duangthip came 2nd and 3rd respectively in an exciting and very closely contended Boys C Grade 1500m with both runners displaying quality running, and desire.

WIS had 6 relay teams in the finals, with 3 teams securing medals:  Anika Singh, Megan Wells, Amy Tao, and Erin Brown represented the 4 x 400m Girls A Grade team and came in 4th.  Max Phelps, Dylan Richards, Rafe Man, and Swiss Duangthip represented the 4 x 400m Boys C Grade team who also finished 4th.  The highlight of the day, in regards to relays, was the 4 x 400m Girls B Grade team of Inez Bolton, Evangeline Ng, Isabelle Brantingham, and Jasmin Drew who stormed to victory and took home the gold medal.

Overall, it was a great day for WIS Athletics: the girls combined team placed 6th out of 12 and the boys came in 11th out of 16 in the HKSSF Division 1 Athletics, GO WIS!
