WIS at Model United Nations conference at VSA
Last weekend, West Island school was represented by 30 enthusiastic students at the annual Model United Nations (MUN) conference at Victoria Shanghai Academy. About 320 secondary students from 18 schools participated in this international event that promotes peace, security and cooperation and where they had the opportunity to debate real world issues. Despite the hectic Horizons week schedule and a number of WIS students participating in MUN for the first time, the students acquitted themselves very well!
The General Assembly was divided into ten separate committees, tasked to develop resolutions for a range of topics, including mitigating the conflict in Myanmar, confronting the threat of cyber warfare and combating threats to international security caused by global terrorism and drug decriminalisation. West Island school had some success with 4 students being nominated as the best delegates in their respective councils and two being voted as the most improved. Overall an excellent weekend of debate for our talented students!
The MUN Conference aims to give students a voice as global citizens and helps them develop an appreciation of the power of collaboration.
Thank you to all students for their continued enthusiasm and the leadership of the Year 13. And a big thank you to Mr Rudall for sharing his invaluable knowledge, support and time which allowed the WIS team to successfully participate in this conference.
