WIS Equestrian Team Update
The Equestrian season has already begun, with WIS being represented by Jade Leshetz (A Team), Kyra Haskins, Meghan Haskins and Sophia Jeffery (B Team).
The HKEF Inter-school Equestrian Challenge is currently the largest equestrian competition for young riders aged 10-16, in Hong Kong. From its humble beginnings with only 12 riders from 3 schools in 2007, the competition has grown into today’s field of almost 120 riders from over 20 schools. It gives Hong Kong students a chance to represent their schools in equestrian competitions and encourages them to improve their riding skills alongside their team members and peers.
So far the WIS girls have had the first taste of the new competition. On January 6, the WIS B team consisting of three riders participated in the Lo Wu Riding School Minis, with Meghan placing 3rd in dressage. The new B team rode with concentration and passion. A real sense of teamwork was felt all around. For new WIS rider Sophia, it was a great experience to become familiarized with the interschool riding environment.
As for the A Team, Jade has shown her love for the sport through her time and preparation, proving that through hard work, there will be great rewards. In the Tuen Mun Mini Dressage and Jumping competition on January 18, she placed 3rd in dressage.
The next goal for the team is the HKEF Inter-school heats:
Lower Division: 10 March
Higher Division: 15 March
