WIS Girls Hockey Team Wins Against Good Hope School
On Tuesday 13 March, West Island School played a hockey match against Good Hope School. West Island School did extremely well and we won with an amazing score line of 6-0, but the most important thing was that we won and played well as a team.
Even though we were short on players, we were still able to have a very good win. We had good communication during the match and we had very good defense. Even though we didn’t play with a goalie, we still managed not to let any goals in. We stayed strong on the ball and were ready for the rebounds. We maintained our positions and we were well spread out, while at the same time quickly receiving and passing the ball.
Although we won, there are still areas for improvement. I think that we could have used the width more and made sure that we stayed in our positions. We could have also just went for the goal when we were in the D, because a few times when we were in, we passed the ball to one another which made us lose the chance to score. We also could have controlled the ball first when we received it and pass when someone was open, or just dribble into space.
We have our opposition more time to get into position to defend us and win back the ball. During the game, we were supporting each other a lot which I think is a very important skill in team games.
In the end we won 6-0. Four goals were scored by Olivia, one from Jazzie and one from Raine. Marisha also did extremely well during the game. Not only as a good defender but she kept passing the ball up front to our forwards so that more goals could be scored. She had a very good run with the ball at one stage then passed it to our forwards who then scored a goal. It’s not always about the forwards getting the goal, it is also about the stage assisting in leading up to the goal.
Overall I think our team played extremely well under the conditions and we hope to continue this streak to our next game.
Olivia and Marisha were awarded Coaches’ player and Players’ Player. A great team effort all!
