WIS Hosts History Bee & Bowl

On Sunday 31 March, West Island were proud to host the Hong Kong championships for the International History Bee and Bowl. A total of 20 teams from Hong Kong, Macau and Shanghai gathered at school to pit their wits against each other and some tough questions on world history. West Island was represented by teams from Year 9 and Year 10, some students who had experience of previous competitions, some who were in their first outing representing the school.

A tough morning saw the West Island teams progressing well, the Middle School (Year 9) team progressed to the knock out rounds as number two seeds while the Junior Varsity team (Year 10) just scrapped into the knockouts on their last game. In the individual competition, the Bee, Jeffrey Han from Year 9 was the early favourite to win but eventually just failed to make it to the final 3. Back to the team competition both WIS teams held their own in very close semi final matches only to lose out in the last questions of the rounds.

No trophy this time for the WIS teams but a great learning experience for some of the less seasoned players. Overall the competition went very well, as usual teams were very complimentary of the facilities on offer at West Island and we look forward to hosting again next year.
