WIS Junior Masterchef Finals 2016

The WIS Junior Masterchef Finals 2016 (Years 7 – 9) took place on Wednesday…the heat was definitely on! The four pairs were ready for action as they took to their areas and prepared for the two hours of creative stress and pressure.

Josh and Jay worked beautifully together; the lamb was seasoned and cooked to perfection, accompanied with roast potatoes, carrots and pea puree. The dessert was a deliciously rich sticky toffee date pudding. Jay’s moon walking and Josh’s dancing topped off the afternoon for the super duo.

The chicken on a bed of pea and pancetta and again with delicious roasties was presented by Nimisha and Josie. A pair who have given this competition everything; at every level, rethinking, redesigning, practising and always acting on feedback. The poached pear on a ginger sponge, a second one wrapped with caramel floss and served with a small serving of crème anglaise was a dessert to die for.

Following a fantastic semi final effort with a tasty chocolate tart within a perfect shortcrust base Brittany and Cherie were thirsty and hungry for top medals. A well seasoned pork chop and the tastiest slices of courgette ever had were followed by an inspired tiramasu with the WIS logo stenciled on top; a beautiful combination.

A professional chef’s jacket and a set of professional knives sat next to the final cooker. They were the essential tools of the final pair Ines and Celeste…they were ready; full of ideas, enthusiasm and energy. Red prawn risotto, edible flower salad infused in delightful dressing and to finish off…a mango and raspberry orange blossom pavlova.

Needless to say the judges had a tough decision to make. All four pairs worked hard to get this far…after four rounds…the final results were as follows:

4th Place: Cherie and Brittany (Song)

3rd Place: Jay and Josh (Ming)

2nd Place: Josie and Nimisha (Han)

And the winners of this year’s WIS Masterchef 2016 and going onto the ESF Finals this on 27th May representing WIS are Celeste and Ines (Tang and Han)!

Congratulations to all contestants and to all 74 students who applied to be part of this. Thank you also to Ms Kruemsunthia, Ms Revans, Ms Cheung, Mr Tsang and Ms Mulchandani for all their work in making this Inter-Dynasty event launch with a bang.
