WIS Win Social Sciences Category at 2019 Tournament of Minds
Tournament of the Minds is essentially about problem solving and creative thinking. Students have to respond a ‘long term challenge’ from one of four strands: Social Sciences, Maths and Engineering, Language and Literature, or The Arts.
The team of six that would represent West Island in the Social Sciences category had to work with one another to come up with an out of the box solution that expressed their creative thinking in a ten minute performance.
On the day of the competition the team would also have to respond to an unseen ‘spontaneous’ challenge in just five minutes. The work that the team put in culminated on the day of the competition hosted at Sha Tin Junior School where over 200 primary and secondary students were competing for a trophy for their division and the chance to go to the Australian-Pacific grand finals.
Our school’s team ended up winning in the Social Sciences category for secondary claiming the trophy for West Island!
Well done to the team and many thanks to our student leaders Harshul and Rebecca!
