World Academy of Sport Accreditation for West Island School

West Island School is proud to announce that it has attained ‘Athlete Friendly Education Centre’ accreditation from the World Academy of Sport. This is recognition for the flexibility and support given to students who compete at a high level in their sport. The accreditation has commended us for our commitment to sport, and also commitment to pastoral care and academic achievement for students. In any accreditation there are suggestions on how we can strengthen further opportunities for students with sporting aptitude and together with ESF we will be working on this. This has also allowed us to offer the IB Diploma flexibly for some elite athletes who may need support for intensive training and international competition.

WIS would like to thank Richard Lant Head of PE and Sport and Jo Caldwell for their work on this accreditation but also their long term commitment to excellence in sporting achievement. All teachers within PE and those who support sport at West Island School are also to be congratulated on their superb commitment to athletes.
