Xinyao Liu Represents HK at Youth Olympics Qualifiers
Congratulations to Xinyao Liu who represented HK Hockey in the Youth Olympic Qualifiers in Thailand earlier in the year.
In her own words, Xinyao said, “A few months ago, I had to opportunity to represent HK Hockey in the Youth Olympic Qualifiers in Bangkok, Thailand. It was an amazing experience as I got to play against the top countries across Asia such as China, Japan, Malaysia, etc. The scorching hot weather was a huge challenge for all of us, along with playing against talented players all across Asia. Even though we lost to China by a huge margin, it was still my favourite game in the tournament. They were the winners from the previous Youth Olympics and we knew before the game it was going to be the toughest game in the entire competition. They were so confident in themselves some games they didn’t even bother warming up. The Chinese players out skilled all of us but we continued to keep up with them. Every tackle or save I made, I felt more and more confident and it was the best game I played in the entire tournament.
At the end we walked off the pitch stronger and without regret because we knew we played our best. It was one of the most hectic and stressful of weeks, but it was also one of the most rewarding weeks of my life. I’ve learnt a lot about myself as a player and playing against tough teams has tested my skills.”
Congratulations and well done to Xinyao on her fabulous achievement!
